Tip or not?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the thing.
and this is sort of a touchy subject, that no one really would be happy with.
Every restaurant has a different policy when it comes to tipping. Some restaurants include it in the bill already, some tip share, and most will leave the tipping decision up to the customer. With the latter there is usually a "tip rule" set in place for the servers. This would mean something along the lines of; the server can not refuse service and may not ask for or expect any certain percentage of tips. and this is where the semantics come in.
Whether or not they deserve the tip, whether or not the customer is rude or abusive and deserves to be waited on, whether or not you tip through tip sharing, yadda yadda yadda.
The fact remains that under NO circumstances should any waitress ask for more of a tip. If one table leaves 2 dollars on a 20 dollar check; that obviously is not a great tip, but can be made up potentially on the next table. As a customer would I say something to management about it? ABSOLUTELY. because as a server, YOU NEVER EVER ASK THE CUSTOMER FOR MORE MONEY. and will telling her manager get her in trouble. YES. Most likely she'll get fired over it.
Bottom line, the waitress should never have asked for more money from her customers, but the customers have to be aware that servers only make money through their tips. If she was a bad server, then tell her, "you were a bad server. I don't think you should get anymore."
---------------------------------------------------------
Some of you people really need to give your head a shake.
The definition of a gratuity (which is what a tip is): .a gift of money, over and above payment due for service, as to a waiter or bellhop; tip. ;something given without claim or demand.
1) The fact you tipped as much as you could happens. It's happened to me. What I do is make sure that I make it up the next time I go. I keep my bill and look for the server's name and do my best to get back to that same server the next time I go.
2) What she did was COMPLETELY out of line. It is plain RUDE to ask for more gratuity. When you get into the restaurant industry you take your chances that way. I would definitely call the Owner AND the Manager and let them BOTH know the scenario. Yes she would get in trouble but that would smarten her up. There is no law stating they can't ask but to do so is WAY out of line. I would be hard pressed to return to that eating establishment after such an experience.
3) Whatever you tip is YOUR choice. If you felt that the service was sub par then you tip accordingly and stand by it. You didn't do anything wrong. What the waitress should've done was looked at what she received and ask what she can do to better the experience. THAT is Customer Service. I'm quite comfortable with not leaving anything if I find the service was lousy to common standards. I have also tipped quite well if my food was crappy but the server was genuine and went out their way to make the dining experience enjoyable. Servers can't help the food quality.
I can understand if you had a large party of people. Some establishments will charge 15% on top of your bill out of the gate if you have a lot of people. That is because it takes more work on that front.
Customer Service is rapidly going down the toilet. I'm not a hard guy to please when I go out. If you want some of my hard earned money, you're going to have to earn it. I'm not just going to give it away because of some arbitrary pressured social stigma. You want a tip from me? Then simply do your job, have a genuine smile, and do your best - chances are by doing so, the experience just naturally becomes enjoyable.

The lady waitress came up to me asking for more tips!!!!!
I felt very offended and saw it as very rude!!!!!!!!!!!
The food is OK, except the waiter forget to server our table for a while, cause 5 piece of beef get burned, turn to black color. This would not affect the tips.
I order course C, serving 3 people,
The bill was 79 + tax comes out $85. I pay $5 tips.
The waitress came up asking for 15%- 20% tips, which is $16.
I said your service is good, I pay $5 tips, your service is bad, I pay $0.
If you came up ask for more tips, I will take back $5 I already paid because you offend me in very rude manor.
I don't care you wage is low, I don't care you live on tips,
It is all you and your boss's problem.
$5 is max I like to give you for tips, I don't care you think I am cheap or whatever.
It is all your problem.
I told the lady waitress, you should never ever ask a customer for more tips, no matter whatever reason!!!!!!
The result is she can't get more money out of my pocket, she let me go.
I hate this waitress, she pissed me off right at my 10 years anniversary dinner!!!
I will never come back this place. Food is ok, the waitress is horrible.
Regardless of the food, if you are not ready for15%- 20% tips,
don't walk in this Genwa Korean BBQ, otherwise, be prepared to be ask for more tips and walk away with angry!!!!
